Right then and there I knew I had to get on that ship! A bit of detective work determined that the gorgeous 4 masted schooner was one of Star Clipper's sailing ships and you guessed it... this winter we went sailing with Star Clipper on a journey through the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean. It's not often that the American cruise scene welcomes a new luxury cruise line to their shores, but that's exactly what will happen in November when the MCS Divina sails into Miami. It's time to say "Ciao Bella" (hello beautiful) to this chic European-styled cruise ship. MSC Cruise Line has one of the newest fleets in the cruise industry with 12 ships, but has been largely unknown to the American market. For over 20 years, MSC had been offering cruises in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and South America with primarily European clientele. With the introduction of their newest ship, Divina, MSC will establish a dedicated American presence to bring the charms of European style cruising to the United States.

There's a new focus on Foodie based shore excursions and chef prepared regional dishes aboard major cruise lines in 2014. While cruising has always had a reputation for offering an abundance of food, cruise lines haven't often tapped into local ingredients or presented regional dishes of the ports they visit. For many of us, half the pleasure of traveling to new destinations is to experience the local fare and to bring home a recipe for a wonderful regional dish. Thankfully, this is all changing with cruise lines featuring celebrity chef experiences, cooking classes and on-shore culinary excursions.
